Lesson 4: Connecting With Others
In the junior ELA class, we also had a lesson on connecting with others. Some of the best ways that I believe people can connect is by focusing on similarities rather than differences, by being approachable to each other, and inviting people into deeper relationships through various activities. Through some reflecting, I do believe that I am pretty good at connecting with others. I think it is because of my ability to work with anybody or talk to anybody. I am pretty good at meeting people in the middle. Through the lesson in class, we were also asked to to identify any major obstacles preventing us from connecting more deeply with others. When I thought about what it is that could be holding me back, the only thing that I could think of would be my pre-conceived notions of people. It is sometimes difficult to get past differences, and I could see that being an obstacle of mine in certain scenarios. However I do think you can connect with others in different ways. Take the picture below for example. My class and I helped to get shoes for students in Uganda who walk to school without shoes. This is connecting with people from afar, with a common goal or objective in mind. We were a part of something greater than our class, and it helped us all connect on a deeper level.
